SDUP 2026 International Conference Concludes Successfully Online
The 2026 International Conference on Sustainable Development and Urban Planning (SDUP 2026) was successfully held online, bringing together leading researchers, academics, and emerging scholars from around the world. Supported by the Henan University Engineering Research Center for Environment and Health, the conference featured a dynamic program of keynote speeches and oral presentations, fostering interdisciplinary dialogue on urgent urban and environmental challenges.

Opening Ceremony
The conference opened with a warm welcome from the host, who greeted international participants and outlined the day’s agenda. With a clear focus on collaboration and knowledge exchange, the host emphasized the importance of active engagement, including Q&A sessions and the use of digital tools such as the "raise hand" function and group chat for questions.
Keynote Speeches
Three distinguished keynote speakers delivered insightful presentations:

Prof. Mingzhou Qin (Henan University) addressed “Research on Ecological Protection and High-Quality Development of Cultural Tourism Industry in the Lower Reaches of the Yellow River Basin,” highlighting the balance between ecological conservation and economic growth.

Prof. Rita Yi Man Li (Hong Kong Shue Yan University) presented “Tailoring Sustainable B&Bs to Cultural Preferences: Evidence from 37 Countries,” offering a cross-cultural perspective on sustainable hospitality.

Asst. Prof. Yitian Ren (Xi’an Jiaotong-Liverpool University) explored “Towards Resilient Cities: Flood Vulnerability Assessment Based Adaptive Zoning Approaches,” proposing adaptive strategies for climate-resilient urban planning.
Oral PresentationsThe second half of the conference featured eight oral presentations by early-career researchers from leading institutions, including Shandong Jianzhu University, Nanjing Tech University, Guangxi University, Xi’an University of Architecture and Technology, Henan University of Technology, and Chongqing Vocational Institute of Engineering.
Topics ranged from the symbiotic mechanisms of large hospitals and adjacent urban spaces, hydrogen explosion overpressure simulation, carbon-neutral urban design, green basalt fiber-reinforced concrete, citizen science in urban greenway governance, seismic response of grain warehouses, to the spatial evolution of rural production-living symbiosis.
Significance and Impact
SDUP 2026 not only provided a platform for cutting-edge research dissemination but also emphasized the practical application of findings in real-world contexts—from resilient grain storage and flood adaptation to culturally sensitive tourism development. The conference underscored the vital role of interdisciplinary collaboration in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and building resilient, livable cities.
